Resource Map scope review
Date: 2026-07-09
Problem
The pre-revision homepage reported 1604 entries by counting all prefix directories including 922 grant records (GRA). That conflates public Resource Map navigation objects with internal ORS/grant-administrative records.
Recommended public Resource Map objects
| Include in public counts | Prefix | Current count | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facilities, labs, makerspaces, clinics | CDM | 31 | Primary hardware map |
| CSH laboratories & programs | CSH | 21 | |
| Communication facilities | COM | 2 | |
| University centers & engagement | UNI | 16 | |
| External partners | EXT | 20 | |
| Art, Music, Theatre facilities | ART, MUS, TTS | 12 | School facilities |
| Catalog courses | CUR | 454 | Curriculum cross-links to facilities |
| Named people (relationship hubs) | PER | 126 | Person ↔ resource navigation |
Evaluate separately (not public catalog totals)
| Layer | Count | Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Grants (GRA) | 922 | Internal registry under Reports; hypertext targets only |
| Publications | see data/publications.yaml |
Link from person pages when indexed |
| Outputs | see data/outputs.yaml |
Link from resource/person when populated |
Revised public total
682 public map objects (excludes 922 grant records).
Home stats (generate_home_stats.py) now reflect this scope.
Rationale
The Resource Map is an institutional knowledge graph for hardware technology access and discovery — facilities, programs, courses, and the people who connect them. Grants are provenance and funding context for specific resources (e.g. CDM-023 ↔ GRA-920) but a full ORS export is not a public catalog product.
