Description & capabilities
Faculty materials-science research laboratory for synthesis and structural characterization of transparent conducting oxides, hydroxyapatite (synthetic bone), and complex oxides. Capabilities include in situ high-temperature x-ray diffraction, pair-distribution function (PDF) analysis, and electrical characterization.
Active national-lab user program: DePaul news and peer-reviewed publications document Advanced Photon Source (APS) beamtime for this group — e.g. ZITO pair-distribution functions (PUB-010; Atomic Anatomy) and synchrotron powder diffraction at APS beamline 11-BM (PUB-095; thesis PUB-098; PUB-100; PUB-104 Sinha, also SNS POWGEN). Physics MS theses also report 1-BM-C (PUB-097) and 1-ID (PUB-099). Typical analysis stack in those theses is GSAS-II, FullProf, and Matlab; several sample series were synthesized off-campus (CBPF Rossi group; Northwestern Poeppelmeier), not in Byrne Hall 114.
