Catalog description
Basic laws of transport phenomena. Similarity relations and analogies. Steady-state heat conduction; heat generation and extended surfaces. Multi-dimensional and transient heat conduction. Numerical and graphical analysis. Fundamentals and empirical relations of forced and natural convection. Radiation concepts, networks, solar energy. Combined effects. Lab component: Introduction to thermal science measurements; combustion, thermodynamics cycles, conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer. Six laboratory experiments in small groups. (Taught at Illinois Institute of Technology as MMAE 322.) (6 quarter hours)
